Oshkosh, WI Pratt Saw and Shingle Mill Destroyed, May 1879


Milwaukee, May 23 -- An Oshkosh special to the Sentinel says: The saw and shingle mill of GEO. W. PRATT was burned this afternoon, together with a million feet of lumber. Owing to high wind, the fire at one time threatened the destruction of all the milling property along the river. The loss is estimated at about $45,000; insurance $25,000.

On Friday afternoon of last week the saw mill of G. W. PRATT at Oshkosh, and 1,500,000 feet of lumber, piled in the yard was totally destroyed by fire. The loss on the mill and lumber is estimated at $40,000. Insurance on mill and lumber $29,000. In the evening of the same day a row of seven barns was burned on the South Side. The second fire broke out before the first was entirely extinguished and while the steamers still playing.
