Beloit, WI Ice Cream Freezer Plant Fire, Sept 1949

PLANT DESTROYED

BELOIT, Wis., (AP) - Fire swept through the main plant of an ice cream manufacturing plant late Wednesday night causeing damage estimated by a company official at $500,000.

The two story brick structure housing the Taylor Freezer Corp. near the downtown district was completely destroyed.

Beloit, Wis. - (AP) - Damage sustained by the Taylor Freezer company, in a Wednesday night fire was set at $400,000 yesterday by Fire Chief Glenn Davis.

The fire chief said a building worth $100,000 and some $300,000 in equipment were lost. The blaze is believed to have started from an explosion in an automatic gas heating system.

Some 125 employes were forced out of work by the blaze. The firm claims to be the nation's largest manufacturer of ice cream batch freezers.
