THREE CHILDREN LOSE LIVES IN FIRE.
MOTHER LEAPS FROM WINDOW TO SAVE HERSELF.
DEFECTIVE FLUE CAUSE OF BLAZE AT HOME -- FATHER AT WORK.
Steubenville, O., Jan. 24 -- (AP) -- Three children were burned to death early today when the residence of JOSEPH GROSS at Weirton, W. Va.
near here, was destroyed by fire.
The victims were:
JOSEPH GROSS, aged 2.
HAZEL GROSS, aged 6.
MARIE GROSS, aged 9.
MRS. GROSS was badly burned attempting to save the children.
The fire is blamed on a defective stove. The lower part of the home was ablaze when it was discovered by MRS. GROSS. All exits were blocked by flames and the children were trapped in the second floor. Neighbors forced MRS. GROSS to leave from a second story window when she was nearly overcome by smoke.
MR. GROSS was at work in a nearby mill when the tragedy occurred.
