Sprague, WA Auto And Truck Collision, Dec 1959

Five members of a California family, en route to Spokane from a visit in Salem, Ore., were killed early Thursday when their station wagon collided with a panel truck on Highway 10 near Sprague, Wash.
Four other persons also died on Washington highways in a 24-hour span between Wednesday and Thursday noon. Another man died from injuries sustained last Friday.
Members of the Tahoe Valley, Calif., family killed in the wreck south of Spokane near Sprague included MR. and MRS. JOHN KESSLER and children, infants JOHN and LIZA KOWZAN and STEVE KESSLER, 11. Only survivor was LAURA LOU KESSLER, 7. She was reported in "fair" condition at a Spokane hospital.
Police said the family's station wagon skidded on the icy highway and collided broadside with the panel truck.
The KOWZANS reportedly had left Salem, Ore., Wednesday after visiting with MRS. KOWZAN'S sister, Mrs. Peter Zupan, 3245 Brownell Ave., Salem.
The KESSLER youngsters were MRS. KOWZAN'S children by a previous marriage.
