Chesapeake, VA Beer Drinking Civil Air Patrol Pilot Crashes and Totals CAP Cessna 172 - Two Injured, Feb 1981

Two Civil Air Patrol members were injured Sunday, February 15, 1981 when their CAP Cessna 172 crashed shortly after takeoff from the Hampton Roads airport. According to the NTSB, the accident was caused by the spatial disorientation of the pilot in command. The pilot admitted to drinking beer prior to the flight which may have impaired his efficiency and judgement. The pilot also said his windshield fogged up prior to the crash.
