EVINGTON WOMAN KILLED IN HEAD-ON COLLISSION IN CAMPBELL COUNTY
CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. – An Evington woman died over the weekend following a three-vehicle crash in Campbell County. Virginia State Police Trooper J.S. McCall is investigating the crash which occurred at approximately 6:57 p.m. Sunday (March 7, 2010) on Route 682 approximately a half mile south of Route 24.
A 2010 Honda Odyssey and a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse were traveling north on Route 628 when the Mitsubishi began passing the Odyssey in a no-passing zone. The Mitsubishi struck a southbound 2005 Honda CRV head-on. The impact of the head-on collision forced the Mitsubishi back into the northbound lane where it struck the Honda Odyssey.
The driver of the CRV, Hermione Joy Stickle-Wommack, 62, of the 1500 block of Johnson Creek Road in Evington, was transported by ambulance to Lynchburg General Hospital. She died there later Sunday night. Stickle-Wommack was the only occupant of the CRV.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, Mark B. Elliott, 34, of Lynch Station, Va., was also transported by ambulance to Lynchburg General Hospital. His injuries are considered to be life threatening. Elliott was the only occupant in the Mitsubishi.
There were five individuals riding in the Honda Odyssey. An 8-year-old male passenger was injured in the crash and transported by ambulance to Lynchburg General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Charges are pending at this time as the investigation into the crash continues. Alcohol was a factor in the crash.
