Vermont Auto Accidents, Jun 1955
Death stalked the highways from Brattleboro in the south, north through Ludlow, Burlington and West Fairlee to Canaan in the remote northeast corner of the state.
These are the highway dead:
ALLEN GIROUX, 3, of Georgia, a town north of Burlington. Killed Saturday morning by a car which failed to stop. State Police later failed to stop. State Police later arrested a Burlington man 15 miles away a half hour later and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident.
MERTON G. CAMERON, 4, killed in Canaan Sunday morning as he ran up a hill road behind an auto. The car stalled and rolled back upon him.
JOHN WICKMAN, 40, of South Ashburnham, Mass., killed Saturday when the car in which he was riding crashed into a tree on Route 103 in Ludlow.
RICHARD LESSOR, 67, of Lincoln, a passenger in a car which went off the road between Bristol and New Haven.
SIDNEY HARDING, 79, of St. Johnsbury, crushed to death Saturday noon when the pickup truck in which he was riding overturned at West Fairlee.
HERBERT L. GRAVES, 31, of Woodbury, crushed in the wreckage of a dump truck he was driving which hit a bridge in Marshfield Saturday noon.
