$40,000 FIRE LOSS IN HARDWICK

Disastrous Fire at Hardwick

The McFarland building, Hardwick, was burned Thursday afternoon causing a loss of about $40,000 with $14,000 insurance.

The building which was four stories high, was built by F. T. Rand, of East Hardwick, who met instant death about two years ago while at work in the building. About a year ago, A. M. McFarland bought the building and has conducted a flour and feed business on the first floor. The upper floors were occupied by seven tenants, all of whom barely escaped with their lives, none of their household effects being saved.

The fire caught in the furnace room, and went up through the grain elevator shaft which was in the center of the building Mr. McFarland had two hundred tons of feed in the building and a number of carloads of grain alone carried any insurance, the less suffered by all the tenants being total.
