Richford, VT Lawyer Drowns in Flood, Mar 1904


Sightseer of Breaking Up Ice in Vermont Carried into Stream.

RICHFORD, Vt., March 27.--While standing on the bank of the Missisquoi River today watching the breaking up of the ice H. E. Rustedt was carried out into the river and drowned. Two other men who were with him on the same ice cake managed to leap ashore.

Hundreds of people, powerless to render aid, saw Rustedt disappear in the swirling waters. The body has not been recovered.

Mr. Rustedt was State's Attorney for Franklin County for several years, and at the time of his death held the position of County School Examiner.
