NINE KILLED IN TEXAS.

Carthage, Tex. (UPI) - Two automobiles collided and burst into flames on an East Texas highway last night, killing nine persons.
Texas highway patrolman J. R. Smith said seven of the bodies were burned beyond recognition.
"It was just a blazing mass of wreckage," Smith said. Traffic on U.S. Highway 59 was blocked for nearly two hours. Smith said the heat of the fire nearly fused the cars together.
Smith said "excessive speed obviously" was involved.
The dead were:
MR. and MRS. JOHNNIE ROBINS McCAULEY, both 35;
and their children, JIMMY CARL, 14; BOBBY GENE, 10; and JESSE LEE, 8, all of Jasper, Tex.;
HERMAN B. UNGLESBEE, 37, whose hometown was not immediately determined;
WAYNE DONALD SMELTERS, 25;
JERRY DETON SMELTERS, 22;
and WADE WAYLAND, 19, all of Mena, Arkansas.
The McCAULEYS and UNGLESBEE were in one car and the SMELTER brothers and WAYLAND were in another automobile.
