FIVE BUSINESS HOUSES BURN AT BRYAN; LOSS $40,000.

BRYAN, Texas, Dec. 8. -- Fire on Bryan street, in the downtown business district here, this morning destroyed the following establishment: Munday & Hoehlman, market and blacksmith shop; Peter Scott, restaurant, and J. R. Fain, barber shop. The warehouse of the Parker-Austin Hardware Company was also destroyed, with a large amount of goods. The two-story brick house of the J. W. Coulter estate was damaged, and the stock of furniture of the McCulloch-Gordon Company which occupied the Coulter Building, suffered some damage from heat and smoke.
The total loss is estimated at between $40,000 and $50,000, partly covered by insurance. All the firms burned carried some insurance, except for the barber ship of J. R. Fain.
