-- Fires:  Almost the entire business portion of Cuero, Texas: loss $40,000.

Victoria, April 14. -- There was a heavy fire at Cuero at 5 a.m. yesterday.  All the houses on both sides Main street, from Alexander's to Nitche's, were burned. Alexander's dry goods store and Benton's drug store were burned.  No Insurance.

VICTORIA, April 14. -- The Cuero fire originated on Sunday at 5 a.m. in a barber shop, it is supposed from carelessness.  Those burnt out are:  Alexander, dry goods, $4000; Heaton Bros., drugs $6000; Warn, hardware, $4000; Whitington, $6000; Wallingsford, $2900; H. Nitche [partially illegible], $6,000; Peter Alonzo, $2000; Mrs. Wilson, F. A. Hake, A. J. Walker, L. Kleineke, and Nute [partially illegible], fruit store.  The total loss is about $40,000.  No insurance reported.
