School Teacher Is Badly Wounded

Memphis, Texas, May 23. – Miss Ella Mae BAKER, a school teacher at Salisbury, near here, was accidentally shot and probably fatally wounded by a 17-year-old girl student in the teacherage (sic) here late today.

Marie RICH, pupil, was fingering a rifle found in a corner of the room when it accidentally discharged, a bullet striking Miss BAKER in the head.

Miss BAKER, formerly of Dallas, was rushed to a hospital here. Physicians held little hope for her recovery.

Second Accidental Shooting Reported With The Same Gun

Memphis, Texas, May 24. – By a peculiar coincidence, Lyrel DAVIS, 21, was shot in the head late today with the same gun which fired a bullet into the head of Miss Ella Mae BAKER, a school teacher, yesterday.

Miss DAVIS was accidentally shot by a 17-year-old girl pupil at a school gathering in the teacherage. (sic) She is not expected to live.

Today Lyrel DAVIS, brother of Garvis DAVIS, owner of the gun, was fishing near here when a companion fired the shot into the water. It glanced and struck young DAVIS between the eyes. His injuries were not described as serious.
