Texas Crash of Army Plane Fatal to Eight
Hondo, Medina, Co., Texas, Oct. 2 (AP).-A training plane from the Army navigation School here crashed and burned Friday night, killing five Army officers, two non-commissioned men and a civilian navigation instructor.
Flames from the plane destroyed the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry E. Merriman, who were away at the time.
The victims were First Lieut. Milton A. Blaul Jr., 27, pilot, San Antonio; Capt. Jack E. Sward, cadet tactical officer, Salem, Ill.; First Lieut. Roger Berg, 23, co-pilot, Mahtomedi, Minn.; Second Lieut. Donald E. Taylor, 27, navigation instructor, Syracuse, N.Y.; Staff Sergt. Gerald E. Morrison, 20, Dixon, Mont.; Staff Sergt. Joseph G. Smithey, 25, flight engineer, Greenville; Alex Kiresuk, 22, civilian meteorological instructor, St. Paul, Minn.
