Willis, March 12. – About two weeks ago Robert WOOD, a colored man, started just after a very heavy rain for Montgomery, leading several horses. The next day the horses arrived at Montgomery riderless (sic). A search was at once instigated for the missing man, but no clew could be found as to his whereabouts until Saturday, when his body was found about 500 yards from the crossing of a very small creek, known as Hulon branch, four miles from this place. A jury of inquest was summoned Sunday and their verdict was that the unfortunate man came to his death by being drowned wile attempting to cross the stream. The body was obscured somewhat by driftwood.
