(By Associated Press)

Nashville, Tenn., March 20. – One man was burned to death, eight men were injured and six were missing in a fire early today that destroyed four buildings in the business district and badly damaged another. All of the injured and the missing were residents of the Arcade building on Union street, a two-story structure in which the fire originated. Carl MERCHEL, 59, the man burned to death, lived across the street from Arcade building but had gone over to investigate the fire. A fireman found him at the top of the stairs in the building with his head badly burned and other burns about the body. At first firemen believed that all persons residing in Arcade building had escaped but a check showed that six were missing. Several hours after the spread of flames had been checked firemen were still unable to enter the room of the Arcade building to search for bodies. None of the injured was burned but all suffered from bruises and cuts.
