Wilkes-Barre, PA Runaway Accident, Jun 1903
INJURED IN RUNAWAY.
Thomas Whalen, the South Main street restaurant keeper was seriously injured last evening in a runaway on Barney street. He had started for a drive with Redmond Buckley, one of Posten's drivers and was sitting in the carriage when the horse became frightened by an auocyle[sic] and ran away. The animal collided with a telegraph pole and Mr. Whalen was seriously injured, one of his legs being fractured in two places, the bone protruding through the flesh. He was conveyed to Mercy Hospital where it was found he was also suffering seriously of shock.
