Fire Destroys Home For Boys Near Erie

Erie, Pa., Aug 11 – Twenty-eight boys made homeless when fire destroyed the main building of the Elmwood Home for Boys at North Springfield, were taken today to other institutions in this section
Ten persons were rescued, three were injured and 15 others fled to safety as the flames late yesterday destroyed the building with a loss of $35,000. Two weeks ago fire at the home destroyed two barns and four garages.
Alvin A. CARPENTER, 22, staff member at the home, was burned about the arms in getting younger boys from the building. Richard KIRSCHNER, 16, suffered a dislocated shoulder when hit by falling timber. John REED, 14, suffered an arm injury when a wall caved in and he was hurled to the bottom of the stairway.
