Muskogee, I.T. (OK) Six Drown In Stream, June 1904
DROWNED NEAR MUSKOGEE.
ALFRED LEE AND FIVE CHILDREN LOSE THEIR LIVES IN STREAM.
Muskogee, I. T., June 8. - ALFRED LEE and his five children were drowned while trying to cross backwater in a small stream near the Arkansas River.
LEE and the children were in a wagon and had started to their farm to work in the cotton fields. They drove into the stream, the team became tangled in some barbed wire that had drifted, and the wagon was turned over in fifteen feet of water.
Benjamin Snell and others swam out into the water and cut the horses loose, saving them from death. A wagon bed used for a boat was floated and the six bodies were secured. They were brought to this city.
