Springfield, OH Tornado, Jul 1896

Windstorm Plays Havoc With the Lights and Traffic Lines.

SPRINGFIELD, O., July 30.---At 6 o'clock last night a tornado accompanied by thunder, lightning and a heavy rain struck the northwestern portion of the city and traversed southeast, tearing up trees and unroofing houses. Mrs. Kinney's residence and Schaefer's grocery were demolished. Telegraph and electric streetcar poles for two blocks were snapped off, throwing the city in darkness and temporarily paralyzing streetcar traffic and telephone service.
