Rossburg, OH Flaming Two Car Crash, Sep 1960


Greenville, Ohio (AP) - Two cars collided at a Darke County road intersection Saturday night and one vehicle burst into flames to create a funeral pyre for four of the seven who were killed.
Six members of one family died in the station wagon that burned. Four were trapped inside the flaming wreck and two others were thrown clear. The driver of the second car also perished and his passenger was critically injured.
Authorities identified the victims as CHESTER MOCK, 36, Union City, Ind.; his wife, ROSEMARY, 36; their two daughters, STEPHANA, 10; and DEBORA ANN, 5; MOCK'S parents, WALTER MOCK, 77; and his 72-year-old wife, LULIE, of Rossburg, Ohio; and the other motorist, STANLEY SLOUFFMAN, 28, Dayton, Ohio.
SLOUFFMAN'S passenger, GERALD ARTHUR WOODS, 22, of Celina, Ohio, was reported in critical condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital here.
The accident happened two miles west of Rossburg, which is 12 miles north of this Darke County seat in southwestern Ohio near the Indiana state line. Both cars overturned into a soybean field.
