Lebanon, OH Three Drown In Pond, Dec 1889
THREE LIVES WENT OUT.
MOTHER AND SON AND A NEIGHBOR'S DAUGHTER DROWNED IN A POND.
Lebanon, O., Dec. 3. -- MRS. C. HALSTEAD and her seven-year-old son, and MABEL BROWN, aged fourteen, were drowned in a pond about three miles east of this place Saturday afternoon.
The BROWN and HALSTEAD families were neighbors and the children went out to coast, and soon after MRS. HALSTEAD was called to by a neighbor that the children were at the pond and that the ice had given away and that they were drowned.
MRS. HALSTEAD rushed to the pond, a short distance away, and rescued two of the children and she made the second attempt to rescue the BROWN girl. She was seized with cramps. The boy followed his mother into the water and was drowned, and was not missed for two hours afterward, as all the neighbors went to work trying to resuscitate the mother.
MRS. HALSTEAD leaves a husband and three small children.
