Six Rescued In Apartment Fire
Passer Awakens Families in Smoke-Filled Building.
Firemen rescued two families trapped in a two-story brick business and apartment block at 8102-4 Wade Park Avenue N.E. early yesterday, after a passer by who discovered the fire had attempted to reach them through a rear stairway.
Henry Lamprecht, proprietor of a dry goods store on the first floor, his wife, Henrietta, and their children, Clara, 7, and Bernard, 3 months, fled to an upper rear porch. Firemen took then down a ladder.
Robert W. Scott and his wife, Letha, escaped through a window and down a ladder.
The fire was discovered by Fred Edwards, 8115 Melrose avenue N.E. Smoke and flames drove him back when he attempted to climb the stairs. He beat on the lower door and shouted, arousing them from their sleep.
