Cleveland, OH Street Car Wreck, Jun 1904

Street Cars Collide.

Richards’ ambulance, two street cars, and a large crowd of people caused excitement at Superior and Bank streets at 8 o’clock last evening. A Payne avenue car had just turned into Bank street when the ambulance dashed down Superior street at high speed. The driver clanged the gong and the motorman of the Payne avenue car backed up to give the ambulance the right of way. In doing so he backed directly into a west-bound car on the Superior street tracks, and there was a terrific crash as the west-bound car was shunted off the tracks. The passengers were shaken up, but no one was hurt. A large crowd of people gathered, and it was fifteen minutes before traffic was resumed, the blockade of cars ranging as far up town as the Williamson building.
