Fort Plain, NY Bridge Collapses, Dec 1931
BRIDGE BEING RAZED COLLAPSES.
MAN KILLED, ANOTHER SAVED AND THIRD ESCAPES.
Fort Plain, N.Y. Dec. 4 (A.P.) - One man was killed, another was seriously hurt and a third escaped injury by leaping into the Mohawk River today when the old Fort Plain-Nelliston Bridge they were razing, collapsed.
The dead man is CLINTON LUST, 27, of Nelliston.
LELAND SNYDER, 32, of Fort Plain, was pinned under the fallen steel beams, with just his head above the surface of the water for two hours before workers cut the metal away and freed him. He had a crushed leg and possible internal injuries.
LESTER HAZARD of Randall saved himself by leaping into the river when the old bridge began to buckle under him.
