New York City, NY Truck and Car Collision, Sep 1983

MOTHER, KIDS CRUSHED.

New York (UPI) - A truck loaded with 50 tons of cement barreled into a parked car in midtown Manhattan, killing a Connecticut woman and her two children.
The driver of the truck, Fran Healey, 30, of Brooklyn, was charged with three counts of second-degree murder and driving while impaired, police said.
The truck, carrying 50 tons of cement, shoved the car up onto the sidewalk where it toppled over, demolishing the vehicle and killing the people inside. It also sheared off a tree as it plowed onto the sidewalk.
Deputy Inspector Mario Selvaggi said the cement truck was traveling north on 10th Avenue when it went out of control at 3:05 p.m. EDT Tuesday, crossed a road divider and slammed into the rented compact car parked at the corner of West 50th Street.
The dead woman's husband, Mohammed Rahman, 36, who left his family in the car for a few minutes, was called to the scene to identify the victims. Police said he suffered "emotional shock" and was taken to St. Clare's Hospital.
The victims were identified as KAREN MURPHY, 23, of Bridgeport, Conn., her daughter MALIKAH RAHMAN, 3, and son AMERA RAHMAN, 2.
Healey, a driver for Transit Mix Concrete of Manhattan, was questioned for several hours, successfully passed a breathalyzer test and was given a blood test before being charged, authorities said.
Jackie Huewing, a bartender for Amtrak, said the truck nearly hit him.
