Brooklyn, NY Dye Plant Fire, Dec 1921
$100,000 DYE PLANT FIRE.
Tenements and Mystic Shrine Temple Menaced in Brooklyn Blaze.
Fire which started just before 1 o’clock this morning in a three-story brick building at 33 Herkimer Place, Brooklyn, occupied by the Paul Ulrich Dye Company, swept that and the adjoining structure, used by the same firm, despite the efforts of firemen under Deputy Chief O’Hara who responded to three alarms.
Four tenements adjoining the plant and four across the street were emptied by police reserved because of the dense smoke.
For a time the Brooklyn Fur Dressing & Dying Company’s place adjoining the blazing buildings was endangered, but only water loss resulted there. The firemen also found difficulty in preventing the spread of the fire to Kismet Temple of the Mystic Shrine in the rear, on Herkimer Street. The damage was estimated at $100,000.
