Buffalo, NY Supply Building Fire, Nov 1968

Buffalo, N.Y. (AP) -- An explosion-punctuated fire ripped through a building housing a restaurant supply firm Thursday, causing damage estimated by firemen at $285,000.
A home and two garages next to the building also were damaged when the blast hurled concrete blocks against them. The explosions shattered windows in the South Side neighborhood and one resident said he was jolted out of his bed.
One of the 135 firemen responding to the five-alarm fire, suffered minor injuries in a fall. The flames were brought under control after a battle of more than an hour.
Fire Commissioner Robert B. Howard, Jr., said the walls, roof and floor of the two-story, brick structure collapsed. He called the building a total loss and said some firemen would remain at the scene overnight to wet down the smoldering ruins. The building was at 1545 South Park Ave.
