A Naphtha Fire in New York.
NEW YORK, Aug. 17.---A workman in the Empire Oil Works, Long Island City, while soldering cases of naphtha, this morning, allowed the soldering iron to drop into the oil. It ignited, and all the workmen had to flee. The fire destroyed the packing shop and a new brick building in which were 30,000 empty tin cases. A canalboat loaded with oil was burned, but the vessels in the vicinity were towed to a place of safety. Loss, $30,000.
