Bather Drowns At Asbury.

Sinks Exhausted in Swift Current Some Distance Off Shore.

Special to The New York Times.
Asbury Park, N.J., July 8.-Otto Stauch, 21 years old, went in bathing at the Asbury Avenue grounds at 6 o’clock this morning with his brother-in-law, Irving Height, and was drowned in a swift current that he encountered some distance out. Height found that the strong tide was bearing him out to sea, and he was unable to help Stauch.

Both swimmers tried to reach the outer rope, but Stauch sank exhausted twenty-five yards away. His home was at 5919 North Thirteenth Street, Philadelphia. The bathing grounds are not opened until seven o’clock, and consequently there was no guard on duty. This is the first drowning in Asbury Park in several years.
