A FLOOD IN ST. LOUIS.

Tremendous Rain Falls, Flooding the Streets and Blocking Travel.

St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 28.----Sixty-eight hundredths of an inch of water fell in 55 minutes today and flooded the low places in the city, the water filling the cellars and in some instances rising into the first floors of residences, churches, and stores. Street railway travel was impeded for a time. At Sarah and Easton avenues the flood covered an area of five blocks and when a suburban street car was run through it the water made a short circuit between the motors and the tracks. The car ignited and was partially destroyed.

At Twenty-third and Mullanphy streets the water rose until it stood twelve inches deep inside St. Leo's Church.
