Hannibal, MO Auto And Tractor Trailer Crash, Jul 1958
CRASH KILLS 7 OF FAMILY.
Hannibal, Mo. (UPI) - Seven members of one family were killed Friday when their automobile crashed into a tractor trailer truck and was ground underneath the heavier machine.
The dead were members of the BENJAMIN FRANKLIN ROGERS family, who were returning home after a visit in Bowen, Ill.
State Police identified them as:
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN ROGERS, 56;
his wife, DAISY, 48;
and their daughter, DEBBIE, 7;
MARY ALICE CAMPBELL, 14, daughter of MRS. ROGERS by a previous marriage;
MRS. MARGERY SEIBEL, 26, a sister of MRS. ROGERS;
and her two children, RODNEY, 3, and ANITA, 6.
The truck driver, Thomas Short, 26, of Brighton, Ill., who was uninjured, told troopers the ROGERS car suddenly went off U.S. 36 west of here. He said the car swerved back onto the road and directly into the path of his truck.
In the grinding crash that followed, the car was crumpled under the truck.
Police said the accident was the worst in Missouri's traffic records this year.
The family had left Parsons, Kan., last Tuesday to visit Mrs. Rogers' son, Clyde Campbell, at Bowen.
