STRUCTURE DESTROYED AT PALMYRA, MO.
Palmyra, Mo., March 3 (AP) -- One person was killed and two others injured when a gas explosion wrecked a two-story brick building here Wednesday night during a snow storm.
The blast, which Sheriff George McGee said, "Shot a sheet of blue flame 60 feet into the air," reduced the building to rubble.
Killed was MRS. LOUISE WINN, 61. The injured were identified as MRS. LENA SAXON, 59, and FRANK SCHWAGMEYER, 68. They were reported in serious condition in St. Elizabeth hospital at nearby Hannibal.
The victims lived in apartments above a jewelry store and insurance office.
An adjacent building housing a drug store was badly damaged by the explosion. Windows were blown out of buildings for a block and a half.
Fire broke out following the explosion but volunteer firemen from the county and Palmyra departments kept it from spreading.
There was no estimate available on the loss.
