Gibbon, MN Head On Auto Crash, July 1965

Gibbon, Minn. (AP) - A family birthday outing and a visit home ended in a head-on auto collision that killed seven persons - five from one family - Sunday night.
The farm family of FREDERICK GUGGISBERG, 34, of rural Lafayette counted four children injured, three of them critically in addition to the five dead.
Killed were GUGGISBERG; his wife, MARY, 33; their children, JOYCE, 8; DONALD, 2 1/2 and PATRICIA, 4 months; and a man and woman in the other car, MELVIN R. SMITH, 39, St. Louis Park, Minn., and MISS BARBARA ANN BJORGO, 38, Minneapolis.
The GUGGISBERGS were bound for a family picnic at the home of Mrs. Guggisberg's brother, Benedict Volz, just seven miles west of the accident scene. A birthday cake was found in their demolished car and Mrs. Volz theorized it was for an advance celebration of RONALD'S birthday July 17.
