Okemos, MI Bridge Collapses, Aug 1930

Okemos, Mich., Aug. 5 - (AP) - GEORGE C. KOHLMEYER, 50, of Lansing, a construction foreman, was killed instantly today when a bridge over the Red Cedar River on the Ingham County infirmary road collapsed. GEORGE DORMER, of Okemos, was injured but not seriously. Two other workmen were unhurt.
The four men were wrecking the old structure to make way for a new bridge over the river. They began tearing down the bridge Monday and clipped the rivets today.
Unexpectedly, the bridge collapsed, crushing KOHLMEYER who was underneath the structure. Flying timber injured DORMER. The latter was taken to a Lansing hospital where it was found he had sustained bruises and a fractured leg.
