Hazel Park, MI House Fire, Oct 1964

10 October 1964, Pat Brown age 9 was burnt to death at 614 W Orchard, 9 month James Sandusky suffocated in the same fire. Pat the daughter of Mr and Mrs James Brown, little James was the grand son. The children sleeping in a back bedroom of the house, Mr Mrs Brown sleeping in the front of the house were able to escape the flames. The Browns went to H.B. Armore at 23401 Stauber to call for help. Mr Amore was found by arriving fire fighters braking out windows in the home which was totally involved. Hazel Park Police Sge Will Rayan and Fire Fighter Ed Evans entered the fire and brought the children out. The resuscitator squad worked on the kids and transported them to the hospital DOA. Fire Fighter Thomas Gross was taken to the hospital after being over come by smoke. after he entered the house looking for 13 year old Bill Brown who was with a friend at the time of the fire. 2 older children were also not home at the time of the fire.
