Stroudwater, ME Train Boiler Explosion, Sept 1874

Fatal Boiler Explosion.

An engine which left Portland, Maine, at 7 o'clock on Tuesday morning, attached to a gravel train on the Portland and Ogdensburg Railroad, exploded when near Stroudwater bridge. The engineer, A. G. Smith, of Standish, was instantly killed, and three others were severely injured. Mr. Smith leaves a wife and one child. There were four men in the cab of the engine at the time the explosion.
