Montz, LA Train Wreck, Nov 1912 - Flagman to Blame

FLAGMAN HELD TO BLAME FOR WRECK; COMPANY CRITICISED[sic].

By Associated Press.

BATON ROUGE, La., Nov. 16.---In the report of the Louisiana state railroad commission on the Yazoo & Mississippi Valley wreck a Montz early Monday, when fifteen passengers were killed and ninety injured, Flagman Mark Cunningham of the wrecked excursion train is charged with responsibility for the collision in failing to go back a sufficient distance to flag the approaching freight train.

The commission, however, condemns the company for sending out inferior equipment. The officials of the railroad company were cited to appear before the commission and show cause why block signals should not be installed.
