New Orleans, LA Oil Tank Explosion, July 1911
HOSTLERS KILLED BY BLAST.
New Orleans, July 4. -- TIM CARROLL, FRANK BALIS and MICHAEL LEONARD, negro, all hostlers, were killed by an explosion shortly after midnight when CARROLL stuck a lighted torch into the crude oil tank of a Southern Pacific locomotive to see how much oil it contained. The explosion also resulted in doing $1400 damage to the locomotive.
