Osage, IA High School Fire, Dec 1910

Osage High School

Osage, Dec. 2. -- The Osage high school building was burned to the ground Wednesday afternoon. The flames started in the garret, no one knows just how, and in spite of all that could be done consumed the whole building contents except that which could be gotten out readily. It was not thought at first that the fire would take the building, but the water pressure was not the best and all the water that could be thrown on the flames did not seem to even check them. The wind was blowing a gale from the northwest.
The building cost fully $20,000 to build and could not be replaced at the present time for less than twenty-five or thirty thousand. The insurance is about $10,000.
