Iowa City, IA (near) Eight Die In Auto Collision, July 1955
SUNDAY WORST DAY IN STATE.

Eight deaths in the crash 16 miles west of Iowa City was believed to be the worst single two-car accident on record in the state.
Dead in the crash were identified as:
MRS. CLARENCE WICHMANN, 26.
Her three daughters, DONNA JEAN, 5; RUTH ANN, 3; and JEANNE, 1, of Homestead, Iowa.
MAX WILLIAMS, 31.
His wife VIVIAN, 28.
Their daughter LISA, 2, of Moline, Illinois.
EARL LOWRY, 63, who reportedly was a cook for the WILLIAMSES.
The only survivors of the tragic smashup were CLARENCE WICHMANN, 30, a farmer and husband of MRS. WICHMANN, and RANDY LEE WILLIAMS, 7, son of MR. and MRS. WILLIAMS.
WICHMANN was reported in critical condition at University Hospital in Iowa City with head injuries and broken ribs. The WILLIAMS boy, who suffered two broken legs and possibly other injuries, was listed as "fair."
