Marion, IA Business Section Fire, Aug 1894


Cedar Rapids, Ia., Aug. 4. -- A fire at Marion destroyed the business part of the town, an entire block of buildings being consumed before the flames could be controlled, owing to a lack of water pressure. It originated in the gas and electric light works, and was followed by an explosion.
One of the principal losses was the gas plant and bank building, owned by the Daniels' estate. The aggregate insurance is about $50,000.
Two banks and a dozen stores were burned.
