North Liberty, IA Interurban And Car Collision, Aug 1943

INTERURBAN, CAR WRECK KILLS TWO NEAR OAKDALE.

Iowa City -- (AP) -- MR. and MRS. CARROL COLONEY of near Oakdale were killed and their three sons injured Tuesday night at 7:35 o'clock when their car was struck by a Cedar Rapids and Iowa City interurban a mile and a half north of North Liberty.
The parents were apparently killed instantly, according to Sheriff Preston D. Koser, but the three sons, CHARLES, 16, BILLY LEE, 10, and JOE, 6, were conscious when taken from the car which had been pushed for at least half a block along the tracks. University hospital officials here today said the condition of the boys was satisfactory. A daughter, CAROLINE, was not with the family at the time of the crash.
Though the front of the interurban car was derailed by the collision, none of the passengers was injured.
