YOUTH SUSATAINS FATAL INJURIES

Crushed by Iron Pipe on Train at North Vernon, Dies in Hospital Here

COMPANION SLIGHTLY HURT

Await Word From Relatives or Army Officials Pending Funeral Arrangements

Injuries suffered late Saturday afternoon when some iron pipe in a railroad car rolled on him proved fatal to Edward I. COFFEY, age about twenty-two, who said his last residence was in Washington, D.C., and he had no immediate relatives.

The young man was brought to Schneck Memorial Hospital here following the mishap and died shortly after 8 o'clock Saturday night. He suffered fractures of both legs and the right arm, a fractured pelvis bone and internal injuries.

When admitted to the hospital he said Washingon, D.C., was his most recent home but said he had been a transient for some - Continued on page 6, column 4 - YOUTH SUSTAINS FATAL INJURIES - Continued from page one - time. Papers found in his pockets indicated that he had received relief at a number of places in the United States in recent months.

He and a companion, Joe Carleti, who said he has no address, were riding on a car of a freight train. The jar of the train caused the pipe to roll on the two. Carleti was only slightly hurt.

A coroner's inquest was held here Sunday by S. F. Tower, deputy coroner, who said today he was awaiting replies to several telegrams he had sent before making funeral arrangements. He had sent telegrams to supposed relatives and one to army officials. The young man had apparently been discharged from the army a few months ago.
