Morris, IL Grain Elevator Accident, May 1912
BOY FALLS IN ELEVATOR WHILE HUNTING PIGEONS.
Richard Hopps, Aged Twelve Years Is Bruised and Crushed About the Head and Other Parts of Body.
Morris, Ill., May 27 - Richard Hopps, the 12 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Hopps, was quite badly injured yesterday while playing around the elevator of the Morris Grain company, near the Rock Island depot.
The boy went up in the elevator after pigeons and in some way he lost his footing and fell. In the fall he was crushed and bruised about the head, shoulders, one arm and one limb. Dr. Bowker was called and dressed the injuries, which will confine the boy to his home for some time.
Two boys who were with the injured lad assisted him home and took turns carrying him. While his bruises are very painful they are not serious. His escape from more severe injuries or even death was remarkable.
