Mace, ID Fire, Jan 1910

FIRE AT MACE CAUSES MUCH DAMAGE.

Sorting Plant and Ore Bins of Federal Mining and Smelting Company Destroyed.

(Special Dispatch)

SPOKANE, Wa., Jan. 2.---The sorting plant and ore bins of the Mace mines at Mace, Ida., in the Coeur d'Alenes, burned today together with the sorting machinery, heating plant, blacksmith shop and 200 feet of expensive cribbing, entailing a loss estimated tonight between $75,000 and $100,000.

The fire, which is supposed to have broken out in the heating plant, raged all afternoon. The property destroyed is owned by the Federal Mine & Smelting company. The sorting plant handled ore from the Standard and other Mace mines. Until it is rebuilt or arrangements made for the handling of the ore, the output of these mines will be greatly restricted, probably 50 per cent. The officers of the Federal Mining company say the loss was fully covered by insurance and that the destroyed property would be replaced immediately.
