2 ARMY INFANTRY OFFICERS KILLED IN TRUCK WRECK.
Ft. Benning, Ga. (AP) - Two infantry lieutenants were killed and seven slightly injured late yesterday in the overturning of a truck in a convoy on the Ft. Benning reservation.
One of four trucks in a convoy skidded on a gravel road and overturned. The mishap occurred as the men were being returned to their quarters after a field problem.
The dead were identified by Army officials said today as 2nd LTS. BENJAMIN M. BELMONT, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Belmont, Omaha, Neb.; and NORMAN U. ALGARD, JR., 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. N. U. Algard, Sr., Norwood, Pa.
Army spokesmen said they could find no evidence of negligence or carelessness on the part of the driver of the truck, the third in line in the convoy.
First reports said 26 were injured but Ft. Benning officials said today only seven received hospital treatment and none of these was seriously hurt.
