Twiggs, GA House Fire, Jan 1889

Snatched From The Flames.

Three Negro Children Rescued From a Terrible Death.

Macon, Ga., January 30. – [Special.] – The report reaches Macon today that last night a farmhouse was destroyed by fire on the plantation of Mr. H. L. SOLOMON, in Twiggs county, and but for the timely arrival of Mr. SOLOMON’S son, who was returning from Macon, saw the glare and hurried to the scene, three negro children who were in the house would have been burned to death. He snatched them from the flames and saved their lives. They had been shut up in the house by their widowed father, who had gone to a frolic, and a chunk of wood from the fire place rolled upon the floor, setting fire to the house.
