Mystic, CT Train Derailment, Jun 1900

Mystic, June 20—The locomotive attached to a north bound freight train was derailed on the west side of the river, between West Mystic and the bridge, Monday afternoon soon after 2 o’clock. It appears that the signal was set against the train and as a consequence the locomotive rn{sic} on to the safety siding, where it left the rails. The momentum of the train had been checked by the engineer after he noticed the signal to such an extent that the cars remained on the track. Another engine was telegraphed for from New London and in about an hour from the time of the accident the derailed locomotive was on the track again ready to proceed. The damage was slight.
