Manitou, CO Fire, Oct 1904


COLORADO SPRINGS, Oct. 10. --- A block of buildings in the center of the business section of Manitou was wiped out by fire shortly after midnight. Spontaneous combustion started the blaze in a curio store adjoining the NORRIS HOTEL. The flames quickly spread to the hotel and street car pavilion on either side. All three buildings burned to the ground. The loss is $35,000. The NORRIS HOTEL was filled with guests who barely escaped. The BAKER HOTEL across the street was only saved by hard work of the firemen.
